I want something that will last 10 years. My current desktop is 10 years old. Rendering video is too slow.

If you are rendering, I think you'd benefit more from more cores. 5900x or 5950x

Chase Freedom Unlimited cards have 20% back (up to 25$) on Best Buy; $270 on this would be sweet!

Just had best buy price match Amazon they said it just needs to be sold by and fulfilled by Amazon.

I would for sure go with AM5 and DDR5 if you want it futureproof and for rendering. And that's coming from someone who just bought the NewEgg deal. But, TBH, I'd probably go Intel if I weren't using it for gaming exclusively.

Not worth it unless have AM4 motherboard already if have buy motherboard will cost you more than AM5 bundle for $100 more you can get 7700X with B650

Nothing will last 10 years, at least not well.

Also this is a bad CPU for what youre doing. AM4 is a dead platform, no new CPUs will be made for it. And the 3D cache that this CPU uses is absolutely worthless for rendering. Due to the reduced clock speeds it actually performs worse than the cheaper 5800x with the same 8 cores.

The best CPU you can buy in a similar price range is the i5-13600k ($315). 14 cores, all benefiting rendering, and an IGP that most video editing software can use for hardware acceleration (Quicksync), and better gaming performance too if you actually game.

I am considering selling my 5600x for ~$100 and upgrading this to future-proof since I wouldn't have to swap out any other components. It's paired with an AMD 6950 XT right now and only game on it... hmmmrmrmrmhrm decisions decisions.

My 5800x3d has no bottleneck at 1440 or 4K w/ my 7900xtx. He would benifit from a 5800x3d for sure. Building new tho I 100% agree to go am5 but being as he's got all the components swapping the cpu will surely get him a couple years.

I agree with you, I updated R5 3600 to 5800X3D with a 4700 ti for 2K and it has been working pretty well for my usecase, only because I had AM4 already.
