It's worth $600 alone for DIRAC alone, which is typically a $300 license. So you're getting a 9.2 receiver for $300, and the best auto calibration software in the market. Anyone with an entry level Yamaha or Denon should be jumping on this.

Idk you got thumbs down, this is literally the one thing that prevented me from buying this. I would've been all over it otherwise.

Nope… Denon and Marantz (and others) were acquired by Masimo as part of their acquisition of Sound United. Onkyo and Pioneer (and others) are owned by VOXX International.

A different part of Onkyo (A holding company) sold off their assets. In doing so there was no reason to mantain the holding company so it was dissolved.

As far as the consumer electronics they are now owned by PAC (Premium audio, company), a part of voxx. distribution is due by 11 trading and manufacturing is done by a sharp joint partnership.

Currently on a RZ830 and could use HDMI 2.1 and Dirac but this is tempting... What has been the low for the RZ50?
When I bought my RZ50 I went through best buy. At my time of purchase it was $1299.00. Then about 2 weeks later Amazon had it for just over $1,000.00. Bestbuy refunded the difference and then a few days later I found it again on sale from Amazon for less so I got another price adjustment and ended up getting this AVR for about $800.00. Since the holidays I've seen it as low as $1,050.00. Just have to keep checking often through Crutchfield,Amazon,Best buy and Onkyos own website. By the way the RZ50 is worth every penny. For someone not interested in separates or external amps or using the full 11 channels that the RZ50 gives you the NR7100 is a steal at this price.not everyone needs or cares about preouts. Most everything else is the same if you look at the comparisons in Crutchfield.

I just got a pioneer vsx-lx505. I think it may be defective, hdmi loses signal, tried new cables too. I only have 5.1. Adamora seems to be out of stock. Is this a good options, it's also less $. Thoughts, or do I just save the money and get through lx305. I'll never need the 11 channel capability. Thx.
Same issue for me on the 505. Lots of flickering, black screens and delays.
I returned the unit

R.I.P.

Over the years i built dozens of computers and built my home theater from frys deals for so much less than anywhere else.

I still get bummed when I drive by the local one that closed down. Still vacant. I'll continue to pray for a microcenter to pop up somewhere within 1000 miles of me.

Sigh. That's not how receivers work.
Oh is that right?

Description says:
220W/Channel Select Dynamic Audio Amplification (DAA)

Here are a couple reference articles you are welcome to read up on regarding the actual output of this receiver.

Also, explain this from Onkyo's official specs:
220 W/Ch (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 10% THD,1-ch driven) 100 W/Ch (8 ohms, 20 Hz–20 kHz, 0.08% THD, 2-ch driven, FTC)

Yes, yes it is. The receiver power supply can only output so much. It's split among all the different channels.

I might be wrong! But I'm too lazy to watch this video. Audioholics has great info though. Check this out. I'm sure they're more of an expert than both of us

Please help, back in 2016 I bought a whole set of Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers, 4 bookshelves, 2 towers, 1 center, and 2 small atmos upwards firing speakers. I kept all speakers to this day. I also bought 3 AV receivers at roughly $600 each, one Onkyo, one Denon, and one Yamaha. We are not audiophiles in the least, but I used the mic to setup rooms for all 3, and the Yamaha was not that good... the Onkyo was ok, but the Denon with Oddyssey I think, was really good; a LOT better than Onkyo, and Yamaha. I ended up selling all 3 receivers, but kept all speakers. I want a new receiver again with a $700 budget mostly for the hdmi inputs, and composite inputs to hook up old school consoles, and movie watching. Which one would you recommend?

Trying to decide between this Onkyo TX-NR7100, the Pioneer LX305, and an NR-6100 that I can get open box locally for $350...
I'm not an audiophile, have a 7.1 system and main reason for upgrading is that my current receiver doesn't support 4k.

Well there are a lot of IFs in that question.
You'll need 9 channels to use all the speakers.

If you want current new this or the Pioneer LX305 is probably best option.
Denon doesn't have a 9 channel in that price range current new.
You would have to look 3700-3500 models for that price range.

Another option, a slightly older used receiver that has the features you need.
Much less cost and you can apply the money to get a good sub.

What does this or the LX305 have that you NEED that the NR-6100 doesn't?
Is it worth $200?

That's a good question. I've heard that DIRAC is worth it but frankly I don't know enough to understand the value add. The ability to expand to 9.2 in the future is also intriguing...

I replaced a Denon X1600 with this NR7100 and its almost too much. Thats not a complaint, its just way overbuilt for my ordinary use case of watching DVDs, streaming shows and movies, and Series X on a 7.1 setup.

TBH, in my setup, I can hear a real difference between Audssey and DIRAC, although DIRAC was harder to use having to connect to a laptop.

So ignoring DIRAC, do you think you'd want to expand your system to add Atmos height channels, and if so would you want to add 2 or 4 channels?

With the 6100 you'd be stuck with your current 7.1 system, or you could drop down to a 5.1 base layer and add 2 height channels for a 5.1.2 system.

With the 7100 or 305, you'd be able to keep your existing 7.1 base layer and add 2 height channels for a 7.1.2 system, or drop down to a 5.1 base layer and add 4 height channels for a 5.1.4 system (which many would argue is preferable to 7.1.2).
