It's worth $600 alone for DIRAC alone, which is typically a $300 license. So you're getting a 9.2 receiver for $300, and the best auto calibration software in the market. Anyone with an entry level Yamaha or Denon should be jumping on this.

That's a good question. I've heard that DIRAC is worth it but frankly I don't know enough to understand the value add. The ability to expand to 9.2 in the future is also intriguing...
That's opening a big rabbit hole especially when it comes to room correction and the which is better.

In basic terms Audyssey and Dirac always get compared because they are comparable.
The big issues are Audyssey comes in different levels + add ons and all in one(loudspeakers & sub(s)/bass).

Dirac separates/divides it by loudspeakers(Dirac Live) and sub(s)/overall bass(Dirac Live Bass Control).

Room correction doesn't "fix" an environment, it just analyzes and gives you guesstimate.
What separates them from the other known RCs in here is the ability to make adjustments to results.
Not everyone is comfortable making those adjustments.

If you just run room correction and leave it, it will be hit and miss on how well they work.

The main issue imo with purchasing for future use(future proof),
Unless it's in the very near future, you can easily find yourself wanting/needing a feature the future proof receiver doesn't have.
You then find yourself buying whole other receiver.

TBH, in my setup, I can hear a real difference between Audssey and DIRAC, although DIRAC was harder to use having to connect to a laptop.
one of the nice things about the Onkyo Dirac setup is that you do not have to use a computer / laptop. there is a Dirac app (Google play or itunes) that is perfect for novice users. very easy to use, get data points and upload wirelessly to the AVR.

I'm strongly considering this, however would it power two Klipsch premiere 8000 towers , a center channel, sub and two rear speakers?

I don't see myself going past 5.1 but don't want to be underpowered without the ability to add an extra amp

This should have no problem powering those speakers, unless maybe you listen at very high levels.

Another thing you might consider is buying used.

Since you only need five channels, you can get a much higher level receiver for much much less going that route imo.

I just got this amp a few days ago to power the Klipsch 5.0 RP-8000F kit. Still waiting on the speakers to arrive though.

My Denon AVR X3700H is slow when changing inputs.

Does this TX NR7100 be a better replacement?

Do you think I need to replace?

Yeesh. With all the fluffy feature spewage on the store page and even Onkyo's product page, I had to download the features PDF to find out how many dang HDMI inputs this thing has: 7 (6 back, 1 front) and read the fine print about HMDI 2.1 support.

Question ….

I want to get this as a starting base AV receiver while my new home is getting finished.

Room is getting wired for 5.1 now but it can be changed.

Use case was to be used for movies / games on a LG C3. Plex output play for steams / shows. And maybe a 4070 ti powered PC.

Will this fit as a good foundation to get me stater as I get better in the audio world?

You expect pre outs for $500? You're out of your mind. Lol.
Expect it from a receiver that has $1299 retail price. Also expect to find it at a big discount if you're looking here.

I would suggest following the placement setup of this: https://www.dolby.com/siteassets/..._setup.pdf

If you plan to move up to object based soundtracks in the future, I would suggest pre wire for this placement setup: https://www.dolby.com/siteassets/...ounted.pdf

If you mean good foundation in regards to sound quality, I would highly suggest concentrating on speaker(after pre wire) first.
Thee biggest factor when it comes to sound quality imo.
Another significant factor that often gets overlooked is room environment.
A well treated(even semi) room/environment is significant with sound quality imo.

If you just need a receiver for 5.1 system to hold you over, I would highly suggest just buying a used one that has the features you need.
Will cost much less than this and likely a higher tier model to boot.

My 2 cents, hope it helps & good luck.
