Let me tell you a story about a store named Fry's...

It's worth $600 alone for DIRAC alone, which is typically a $300 license. So you're getting a 9.2 receiver for $300, and the best auto calibration software in the market. Anyone with an entry level Yamaha or Denon should be jumping on this.

Idk you got thumbs down, this is literally the one thing that prevented me from buying this. I would've been all over it otherwise.

Obviously if I have a 5.1.2 setup, I already have Atmos, otherwise I would not have had the RZ series. The MLT-2 was for the surround and I have decent in-ceiling 8" speakers.

DIRAC was one of the main reasons, as my room and seating is VERY bad in my TV room/mancave. I've had to rely on my own ears to adjust speaker

I'm surprised you're replacing your RZ830 with this one... please update me on whether the upgrade was worth it! TIA
So I was able to set it up and do find that DIRAC makes things reasonably clear in my system (versus slightly muddy without it). The movie dialogues are very clear but music is nothing to rave about. I'd tweaked my RZ830 to a pretty good setting but NR7100 is still an upgrade. Also, having Airplay 2 work flawlessly (versus buggy Airplay in RZ830) is great. I was also worried about this being less powerful with 100 W/Ch (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.08% THD, 2-ch driven) versus RZ830 being 120 W/Ch (@ same specs - 8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.08% THD, 2-ch driven) . Surprisingly, I need 10% less volume in this to power my speakers versus supposedly higher powered RZ830.

It's a barebone system with no pre-amps and no possibility to expand to 2 extra channels like RZ830. I'm seriously considering getting Denon AVR-X3800H (and also thinking about AVR-X4800H and Marantz Cinema 50) though after adding DIRAC, those would be 2x to 4x the price of this NR7100. Unfortunately, in a spur-of-the-moment crime of passion, I just dumped some $s on a second sonos sub and couple of era 300 satellites for a bedroom arc. Now wondering if the money would have been better spent here on my main system's receiver ...

Yes correct and that was my all be it sarcastic point but to the point nonetheless.

Personas(any traditional speakers) for apartment use is completely a waste, especially something like the Personas!
You would not get anywhere near their potential let alone with a $1K AVR in one!
Again the 5/7s were in a dedicated (much larger) room and a top of the line AVR did not get them there(not close imo).

If you're not joking or just trying to brag(I would too Wink )
Assuming they are brand new(or you would just use the equipment you did before).

I would strongly recommend leave/put them back in their box and store them in a nice cool dry place in that apartment.
Buy some used soundbar for like $150 and use that until you get to that new media room.
Save that $1k and keep adding to it.
When you get to that media room you will have a nice budget to get equipment that will take full advantage of the jaw dropping Personas!
I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

Thank you for the detailed update.

I think I will pass and wait for an RZ50 deal. It seems, from my read of your update, that DIRAC was the main upgrade with everything else providing miniscule changes.

Thanks and enjoy your system(s)!

Depends on if any of the feature(s) are worth $549 to you, if not then no imo.
