Bottom Line Up Front: it's an exceptionally capable machine, even 6 years later. You'll be HARD PRESSED to find a better machine for cheaper.
Ugly & Bad First: I'd love to see the 16gb/512gb go on sale for this price point...but 256gb storage is entirely usable depending on your needs. However, if you are anything but a light user, you'll quickly hit the 8gb RAM upper ceiling. It has support for ONLY one external monitor. No fan, so if you hammer the CPU, you'll quickly thermally throttle it (they call it "passively cooled", I call it "cheap").
Good & Excellent Second: It's their ultrabook with excellent hardware...yet it's so-called ENTRY-LEVEL...but don't let that fool you. It's much higher quality than anyone else's entry-level. You can spend a LOT more for generic mid-tier machines for Windows while getting worse hardware. The MBA's keyboard, trackpad, and screen are all excellent-tier. Build quality is excellent. The CPU, being their entry-level first-gen M1, is still more than enough for all but the most serious users (if you're a 4K-8K video editor, find a different machine. if you're an LLM developer, find a different job and a different machine).
Source: I use the M1 Air w/ 16gb/1tb ssd, purchased in Nov. 2022. I do frequently max out the RAM (and hit the swap like it owes me money), but everything else about it is fine. I paid roughly $1200 back then for mine. This being a ~$300 machine, you can do far worse if you're not a heavy user. If you need more, I'd suggest looking at the M4 Air with 16gb/256gb ssd, with a starting price of (sale)$750/(msrp)$1000.

Anyone who says differently is either a power user (possible) or doesn't know that they are talking about.
