If anyone wants to see what running pci gen 3 vs 4 does for performance. Mind you this is tested with an rtx 3090 for production tasks which nobody in their right mind would pair a 5600G with a 3090
What model motherboard do you have? Have you checked the bios update page? Often times manufacturers don't specify that various updates support specific CPUs. But there are updates that are amd ryzen specific to bios and it will have a certain number or specifications, if you look at that specification, it's most likely for CPU support, I was looking up an A320 motherboard from msi a few months ago. It had updates for the ryzen 5000 series in there. And it didn't say specifically that it was for cpu support. It had some kind of a specification number that I had to google to find what that update meant
Usually what it means, is that once you update the motherboard board to support those newer models, it drops support for the old X4 or first gen or second gen ryzen CPUs.
I agree with @mickybluesb ... My b350 has a bios update that refers to "Update AMD AGESA V2 1.2.0.7 for adding Vermeer and Cezanne processors support" but it doesn't list the CPU in the CPU support list.
