On my NR7100 those are basically unusable at higher volumes as they increase the noise floor dramatically where you can hear static at -15 or higher. When listening near reference I'm at about -10db for most films.
With the tone controls at 0 it doesn't become audible until about 0db which for most content would blow my system up.

Dirac also raises the noise floor slightly compared to without Dirac - but it's not nearly as noticeable.

The Pioneer Elite 305 is basically identical to the Onkyo, except the Onkyo supports more audio standards and has some other features the Pioneer is lacking. Given that they weigh in at exactly the same weight, I'm sure the amps are identical.

I know one major difference is the way crossovers are handled, so there are probably some other differences as well (maybe better processing for things like tone controls).

I suppose the noise floor issue may be able to be fixed in firmware. I guess I'll submit a report, I never use the vocal control as it completely messes up the sound.
