FYI, it was $529 before Thanksgiving. If you can hold and wait 😁
the Pioneer is a better model. it has more power and a full set of pre-outs, so that extra cost is pretty small to be able to have that amplifier expandability later on if you need it.
Only thing stopping most from jumping on this is the lack of pre-outs. Big issue long term as you can't just juice it up with external amps.

I have a similar model & I was wondering how to hook up a fire stick to this - so we can listen on our surround sound instead of directly plugging it to the TV. Can this be done? If so, how? TIA….
Any of the HDMI ins should work on your receiver, then run an HDMI cable from your receiver's HDMI out to one of your TV's HDMI in (if you haven't set that up already).

Most likely the fire stick won't fit directly into the receivers HDMI port, you would need a HDMI cable to connect firestick to receiver.

It'll fit because the fire stick comes with an hdmi extension

I haven't been able to find anything on it but I wonder if the Pioneers also handle treble and bass better.

On my NR7100 those are basically unusable at higher volumes as they increase the noise floor dramatically where you can hear static at -15 or higher. When listening near reference I'm at about -10db for most films.

With the tone controls at 0 it doesn't become audible until about 0db which for most content would blow my system up.

I know there are better forums to ask this, but how are they getting THX certification in a 22 lb receiver with class AB amplifiers? How is the power supply so light but still able to meet THX required output?
I think many would be surprised how little power they are pulling when all the speakers are crossed over at say 80-100hz and the subs take care of the rest. It's plenty for my 6 ohm rated speakers which drop to about 3.5ohm, I can push 90db averages ~105 peaks (120-125db LFE peaks) without really stressing anything.

When using Dirac you should not have to adjust the bass/treble separately. If needed you can adjust the master curve when doing the DIrac calibration under the filter design section to enhance the sound profile.

Yeah, I kind of like the ability to adjust it depending on the content though.. I know you "shouldn't" need to but sometimes the content mix is a bit off - far more common with music though. My other AVR's/processors didn't seem to have that issue at least not to this degree.

Dirac also raises the noise floor slightly compared to without Dirac - but it's not nearly as noticeable.

It was $529 for like an hour, and then they had it on sale for $629 for a week. Not sure I'd hold my breath for the $529 price to return.

Did you run Dirac Live full calibration on your setup?
The Pioneer Elite 305 is basically identical to the Onkyo, except the Onkyo supports more audio standards and has some other features the Pioneer is lacking. Given that they weigh in at exactly the same weight, I'm sure the amps are identical.

Yep - with UMIK-1 and custom house curve. the tone control noise floor issue happens whether or not Dirac is activated.

I know one major difference is the way crossovers are handled, so there are probably some other differences as well (maybe better processing for things like tone controls).

i understand. there is a feature called "Room EQ" that you should be able to adjust on the fly to make those types of changes.

I don't believe you can have Dirac enabled along with that. I haven't checked if that also increases the noise floor.

I suppose the noise floor issue may be able to be fixed in firmware. I guess I'll submit a report, I never use the vocal control as it completely messes up the sound.

Yeah, it's possible to have multiple slots but they cannot be modified on the fly - have to be recalculated and replace the slot.

I am currently running a TX-RZ830 and keep debating between upgrading between this and the RZ50. Currently running 5.1.4 with a miniDSP feeding two subs. I doubt I'll ever use the preouts and primarily want Dirac and HDMI 2.1... Definitely tempting...
