Let me tell you a story about a store named Fry's...

It's worth $600 alone for DIRAC alone, which is typically a $300 license. So you're getting a 9.2 receiver for $300, and the best auto calibration software in the market. Anyone with an entry level Yamaha or Denon should be jumping on this.

The clicking is normal because resolution, video codec, something, is changing going from one service to the other. The receiver might be switching something up. Also, when you find out if you have eArc or Arc, just know that if you have Arc, connect your devices to the receiver, and then the receiver to the TV. Arc has lower bandwidth and you won't be getting the maximum audio quality. eArc however, no problems having things connected to the TV first, and then running the TV to the receiver last. eArc is a lot more advanced and you can send bigger bandwidth to the receiver.
I have an older Sony tv. I don't think eArk existed at that time. Just Arc. Haven't tried changing it up yet. Thank you. Will report back.

You are lucky. Never move lol. I was looking to upgrade my mobo and CPU, because intel famously loves to say "well, you want a new CPU, get a new mobo while you're at it". I was traveling to Texas for work. I was seriously considering going to the microcenter in Texas and stuffing it in my backpack lol. Pretty desperate if you can't tell.
This is why for my current rig I switched back to AMD in hopes that they'll run the AM5 platform for more than a couple of years and I could bump up to a Ryzen 11000 or whatever after being stuck on my Intel builds CPUs for the life of the rig, only getting GPUs to extend their lives.

I've got a 12C/24T 7900X and a RTX 4080 GPU, so I should be in good shape for several years before needing to upgrade.

Is this good or the pioneer lx305 better? I'm trying to get one of these receivers.. Pre-outs might be important if I'm not completely satisfied with the sound, I could use an amp... Does anyone have this? I had that Yamaha from Costco deal and the sound was mediocre for me... Tried an older onkyo and it was a great improvement. Even the class D fosi amps drove the speakers better

New, I believe $1k.
If you're open to refurbs AC4L has it for $899. https://www.accessories4less.com/...ver/1.html [accessories4less.com]

You might better off with the Pioneer LX505, less expensive.
VSX-LX505 is really tempting for the 11-channel expansion capability. I have a cheap Denon from CostoCo, 7 channels, and the channel limitation is a big bummer. Also, the user interface on the cheap Denons is terrible. An Onkyo or Pioneer would be a big upgrade.

Would you choose a lx305 pioneer or this onkyo?

Yes those are two different categories, if you need the extra channels 505 is a better choice.

Keep in mind channels 10 & 11 on the 505 are not assignable, have to be externally powered.

Do most older units on the second hand market come with HDMI 2.1 ? Passing a console / pc to the C3 is a must feature.
HDMI 2.1 was introduced in Nov. 2017, so you'd need a 2018 or later model and early examples had issues with their HDMI boards IIRC. You may want to start with 2019 models at least.

I have a 2017 Denon X4400H which doesn't have HDMI 2.1 so I had to plug my Xbox Series X directly into my LG CX and pipe the sound back viz eARC and it's been fine since the set has all the 2.1 features.

I wish the trend to fewer HDMI inputs wasn't happening. The X4400H has 8 inputs (7B/1F) and this only has 6 rear ports. I've got 6 devices already, not counting the XBSeX, so something would have to go to have everything run through. Drag.

To be fair this isn't on the same tier as the 4400.
With Onkyo you would have to go to the RZ50.
With Denon of course would be 4800, you could even go to 3800(only 6 here though).

Do you mean the NR7100 is higher or lower than the X4400? My complaint wasn't limited to Onkyo, but I'd notice this with the Denon X3800 which only has 6 inputs for a $1700 list AVR (the X4400 was $1600, but I got it for $800) and a 7th input means the X4800 at $2500. Ouch.

I could manage with only 6 inputs - I never use the Xbox One X - and the inclusion of Dirac Live which is an extra cost add-on for Denon interests me.

To the audiophiles out there, please advise (with real input, please)
Keep my RZ720 from 6 years ago that is still running strong with no issues, or upgrade to this NR7100???

"Out with the old and in with the new"? Or "if it ain't broke, why fix it?"

I'm running a 5.1.2 setup with Martin Logan MLT-2, LG 65" C3 OLED. I love surround sound and even watch the morning news in the same setup!

TIA...

For 5.1.2 setup with compact Home Theater in a Box MLT-2 speakers, keep your RZ720 and save your money for when you upgrade to Atmos and larger speakers unless you think your room acoustics are so bad that you really need DIRAC correction. Newer/cooler tech keeps coming and you can get something better that's more scalable with preamps etc. Or this will be available on craigslist/FB marketplace for ~250 in a couple of years

By the way, I just received mine today. Will be replacing my TX-RZ830 over the weekend. Will post whether the upgrade to this made any difference

The 7100 is drop down because as you pointed out, it drops to 6 2.1s(among other things).
That's one of the few differences between the 4800 & 3800.
I would point out the 4800 has gotten down to $1399 and the $3800 to $800.

This does have Dirac Live rolled into the price but it doesn't offer the other half, Dirac Live Bass Control which Denon does.
Many Denon/Marantz owners took advantage of a recent 30% discount for Dirac and got both for $560.

A nice benefit to your 4400, you have access to Audyssey's Editor App & MultiEQ-X.

The app offers a few significant benefits which Dirac offers also.

MultiEQ-X offers pretty much all of Dirac's capabilities.
All for a fraction of the cost of a whole new receiver.

Contact Adorama Customer Service. I believe if it's within 30 days and they advertise a cheaper price, they will at least give you a store credit for the price difference if you ask. Worked for me.

If the main use will be movies and gaming at 5.1 with normal volumes (not loud enough that I have to keep turning down the volume during "loud" scenes), would this receiver pair will with the Paradigm Persona 9H left/right and Paradigm Persona C center? Is the lack of pre outs enough to say no?
Thanks!
