It's not left over stock, it's a strategic move between Apple and Walmart: https://corporate.walmart.com/new...ts-shelves

It's not $750. It's $900 w/ a $150 gift card. There's a difference.

Y'all acting like this laptop is paperweight just because it's 3 years old. Name a $700 Windows laptop that can match this in build quality and battery life...

you'll find the same people who kept pounding the "it's more than enough RAM" drum back when airs came with 4GB standard when it was clear 8GB was needed

are now pounding the same drum about 8GB.

the fact is, 8GB is doable.... until it isn't. and we are closer to it not being enough than we are to where 8GB was more than sufficient. if you have plans of owning this for the long term, i advise against it

if you just need something now, then this is a great deal. $650 was better though from the other week

Wife literally uses her 2018 base intel Air daily for basic things and work on docs papers etc. Despite the butterfly keyboard. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. Battery easily goes 8 hours. No slowdowns for what she does. Not everyone is MKBHD doing 4K video editing daily.

Some will be just fine with a $700 Apple laptop. And Apple chips seem to be better optimized for their OS and Apps than Intel. 8GB may certainly pose limits to some but it'll certainly go farther than on an Intel chip. If you don't consider yourself a power user, this should be a perfectly fine MACBOOK for you!

I was able to buy this from Costco for $649. Reason I bought this was to test it out as a first time Mac user.

I am 47 years old. My journey with Windows started with Windows 3.0 back in 1991. Since then I only used Windows. Used Windows at work used Windows at home. I was afraid of Mac interface. So I wanted to buy the cheapest model so that I wouldn't regret spending money on it in case I didn't like it. I also have 2 kids getting ready for college. Will use this Macbook Air to see if they rather have a Windows PC or a Macbook before they head to college. They both use Linux and they are anti Microsoft and anti Apple.

Okay. Now my impressions. Screen is awesome, I love the keyboard, it starts in an instance. I was able to watch a few youtube videos for first time Mac users coming from Windows. So MacOS isn't as complicated or as scary as I thought before. Maybe being an iPhone user helped as well I don't know. And battery life is insane compared to Windows laptops. I purchased a Bluetooth mouse as I am right click left click guy and life for me became easier.

This is my third day and I love this laptop.

embrace the macos, I go without mouse, and coming from a trackball type person, this is the only laptop that feels real good without a mouse, two finger click, three finger swipe, that stuff is magic. Once you really get to know the system, there are little annoyances, but overall a spectacular setup. Integrated image to text, integrated screen recording, integrated screenshot, photo cutouts, password sync, pdf manipulation, and more, really amazing machine. Just take it all in, one at a time, and pretty soon, you will see the appeal to this system.

Got one for the wife from Costco for $650 a few days ago with the 2 year warranty. It's solid and performs great. I got up to ~50 tabs in safari without issue.

As a general purpose/productivity machine, you can't go wrong. You could do cloud based game streaming (ala xcloud) if you really wanted.

I'm in the "32gb minimum" camp on memory, and would prefer apple just make 16 the base. However, I don't think the vast majority of users should be too concerned with 8 on this platform. Even the SSD lifetime write hit as a result is going to be irrelevant to most.

Tried to order 3x, each time walmart cancelled the order. I called support since they seem to have flagged my new card as suspicious activity. Walmart rep said to try again after 5 hrs w same payment method, nope, it got cancelled again.

Yes, depending upon your use case. 8GB on MacOS runs similar to 16GB on a comparable Windows 11 PC, imo.

Keep in mind you won't be able to have as many apps in the background as 16GB without it affecting performance, but it's still good for the average user. Using any content creation/"Pro" apps, you should opt for 16GB.

This is a great quick ~4 minute video on the topic. https://youtu.be/8zNuiP9-jkQ?si=yQAXiK7wRfB-2C96

Don't know about battery life, but there was a deal for HP Elitebook 845 G8 posted on SD recently and the build quality is really nice. Comparable to my 2019 MBP I'd say. Cost only $300.

I'm skipping M1 and M2 macbook's due to new release article that an unpatchable vulnerability has been discovered in Apple's M1- M2 series chips that allows attackers to extract secret encryption keys from Macs under certain conditions, according to a newly published academic research paper (via ArsTechnica), i'll wait for M3 MacBook air later this year to go on sale, good to luck to those who ordered.
