This 8gb M1 is more than capable to handle the tasks of 99% of users. I run multiple tabs of chrome, imessage, spotify, ableton etc etc etc, all at the same time. Look online and you'll see the same experience. Definitely a good buy at this price.

This has the big bezels around the screen. The M2 has the thinner bezels with a slightly larger screen and a bunch of additional benefits like better camera, better audio, brighter screen, etc.

I'm using an M2 Mac Mini with 8gb RAM connected to a 12tb external hard drive to run 3 servers (Plex,Emby, VLC) without a hiccup. It's Been running continuously for almost 2 years. I previously had a 2018 mini pc i7 with 32gb ram that crashed every month and would bog down even just using Plex. Don't believe all the "8gb ram limitation" jargon.. this computer is a workhorse.

Main downside with this model is the old display style. M1 CPU performs well, but the 13" screen is made even more small if you compare it to the updated screen on M2/M3 air (with thinner bezel & camera notch design).

I actually got this for around $500 new recently using a credit card promo, but I should've paid more for an M2/M3 air for the screen. I'll probably sell the M1 on eBay & put the money toward a newer one.

TLDR - Don't buy this one if you plan on using it as an actual laptop & using the screen - pay $750 or more for an M2 air with the improved display.
The updated display on the newer machines is definitely great, seems to be Mini-LED or similar technology given how black the blacks are... But I don't think I would want it on anything short of a premium machine.... AKA minimum 16GB RAM and a decently large storage device. Also I'm not sure I would want to dump that much money into a premium display that is only 13 or 14". The reason to get a 13" is for portability. Probably better off getting a 16" if you care about picture quality, as screen size is generally the best way to improve the viewing experience.

Tried it out by synching Chrome from my MacBook Pro to a 8GB MacBook Air.

Had roughly 150 tabs open over 4 profiles. That was definitely too many to handle for the 8GB when I tried rapidly switching between tabs. After closing 3 profiles to get to somewhere between 30 and 40 tabs it looked fine. Based on that I wouldn't say it should be able to handle tasks of 99% of users but probably 90%+?

I have a 32gb laptop, but Windows is so bloated, ...use 8g. MacBook in bed, etc. is faster
Well, I've got an HP Z-station workstation for around this kind of money - expandable memory, aluminum chassis, 14" 2440p screen, TPM chip, etc etc. AND 3-year support and warranty (people in Texas send you next day air replacement).Sooooo, I would say any Mac is not really a good buy Smilie, but for each its own Smilie. I do have several Macs at home, which other family members use. I personally can't waste my time with something so cumbersome as Apple OS.
The iPads are great though, but I don't use them for anything fancy. I would recommend anyone to buy an iPad for basic staff and a real laptop for serious work/usage. MBAs are great for typing text and submitting homework in K12 school years Smilie. Do NOT buy this laptop for a college student in finance or engineering major - useless platform for the required apps.

I was just looking at the SD graph from first page, and this product was 399 in May of this year, was that a price mistake?

Is this a good price for this lap top? I got a ASUS 17 inch IPS chrombook 64bit OS for 79 dollars on clearance from Best Buy in excellent condition (end of life is 2031) , that I love (actually bought 4 of them, they were so good).

I know it's an apple , so I guess my comment is a little comic relief for the thread. Be gentle and kind please. I did buy an ipad a few months ago that I love, so my next apple product could be something like this. So passively interested in this product.

My wife has had one for a couple of years. Great computer for everyday web browser type use.

Everyone here is talking about how the 8GB of ram doesn't matter, but it really does, or more accurately the 8GB limitation will matter if you care about the AI features coming to Apple devices… except ones limited by ram.

You'll be disappointed with the screen I know I had one but sold it. If you want to buy a MB, get the pro version with the upgraded screen. It's crazy that none of the owners are talking about how bad the screen quality is.
I'm very familiar with the pros of the Pro -- I swear I've been debating between it and the Air for the last few months. For my needs, a Pro would definitely be over kill. I seriously just need something to Web browse, YT and check email. The Air being fanless is its main selling point to me.

I would have pulled the trigger on a Pro long ago had it came with OLED. I've witnessed the blooming effect that comes with miniLED on an iPad Pro and its something I'm not willing to overlook for $1,700.

For $650, I'm more forgiving. This is just to get my by till 2026 for the OLED Pros.

I googled this now and see that this is indeed a common issue with M1/M2s.. Haven't noticed any mention of M3. Starting to reconsider getting these entirely

Your M1 will have faster SSD speeds than the M2 (unless you pay for the more expensive 512gb variant)

People sure do complain for no reason. You're not getting a better laptop for anywhere near this price that can do what this does.

Specs only tell one part of the story so before you try and link me to some asus laptop with a crappy Intel processor with 16GB RAM, do a little extra research.

The second 2 you linked aren't playing games, or editing 4K video since they have no dedicated GPU.

Their battery life also isn't 12+ hours that the MacBook Air is.

Also every one of those displays is significantly worse than the M1 MacBook Air
