This is not true. I have this exact laptop and have no problem running other drivers.
Like every gaming laptop.

I have the 6800s version of this and I am happy with it.
I am typing this message on this laptop now, and I love it!. I bought it open box a couple months ago when it was on a similar sale. Here are some thoughts on it:

In my opinion, this 14 laptop is the perfect balance of being portable (not too thick and heavy) and being usable to get work done on the built in screen, or to become a real powerhouse when plugged into an external monitor and external power.
For reference I can typically get 100+ FPS @ 1440p on Modern Warfare II on high settings with AMD FSR. It's amazing.
The CPU is incredible. Even faster than my company issued laptop with an Apple M1 Pro CPU in some operations (tested compiling Go code as one example)
The screen is gorgeous, high pixel density, and high refresh rate
The keyboard is really great! I love typing on it. I'd say it's as good, or maybe even a bit better than my current gen MacBook keyboard
The trackpad is good, but not MacBook quality. It's a great size and tracks well. Clicking feels like it leaves something to be desired, though tap to click works fine.
Battery life is great, if you manage the power settings correctly (Silent Mode + GPU Eco Mode).
The webcam is bad, unfortunately. To me, this is not a dealbreaker. I don't use the webcam on my personal machine much, and even if I do, I have an external webcam I can connect.
Windows Hello support is really nice for fast, easy login
Regarding drivers, you can (and I recommend) installing the drivers directly from AMD. The driver that shipped with mine included Raedeon Software that tended to use the dedicated GPU even in the background so it ate up power for no reason.

Yes, it does run hot while gaming. I'm pretty sure all gaming laptops do. The fans are pretty noisy while gaming in the Turbo power profile. I have gotten used to this though and don't mind it anymore. I wear headphones while gaming and it's not a problem. For best gaming performance, the laptop needs to be plugged into the power brick that comes with it. You can charge the laptop off of USB-C, but it's not enough power to let the CPU/GPU run at full throttle. There's a good amount of testing and a writeup that was done on that here: https://www.ultrabookreview.com/5...t-monitor/

You need to keep the lid open and the vents clear while gaming. I tried several different configurations, including some with the lid shut, and it can overheat and shut down while gaming. The air intake is on the bottom of the laptop and the lid hinge props it up to let more air in, rather than sitting flat on the desk while closed. The parts of the laptop that you need to use while gaming (WASD keys) stay cool enough to game comfortably for hours.

Hopefully this info is helpful to someone. I really love this little laptop and this is a great price for it, especially some of the open box prices. Cheers!

I've been eyeballing these 14" Zephyrus gaming laptops for several years now, and they keep getting better and better. But the one place that they've still refused to make a course correction is in the color. White laptop with silver keycaps and white backlight for the key lettering is an absolute disaster for usability. I had a Samsung laptop with that combo once about a decade ago and I had to switch out all of the keycaps to make it usable. Why does Asus insist on doing this still? Why would they not at least offer a darker colorway?

I disagree about the keyboard. I went into the store to try it out. It's got more travel than a macbook which might be nice, but the keys don't feel that fast and since the laptop tilts upwards, the keyboard flex was too much for me. I have a Macbook Pro 16" for work, it's much better than this one. Lenovo's keyboard feel better than this one too.

I was seriously shopping this exact laptop last November. It was the exact same price, 1199. Amazing how no gaming stuff is dropping
You do realize that Asus releases a new G14 every year. So you couldn't have been shopping for this "exact laptop" last November since the 2022 version which is what this one is came out in the Spring of this year.

I get that keyboard preferences are highly subjective, so your opinion is valid. I also have a 16" MacBook Pro for work, and I prefer the Zephyrus. I have never noticed any keyboard flex when typing on it. I was actually surprised to hear that YouTubers complained about this. In terms of how "fast" it is, I've also measured my typing speed on it compared to my MacBook Pro and I'm about the same on both. Again though, it's all preference. I think they're both good keyboards. But I also agree that ThinkPad keyboards are unmatched on laptops Smilie

I thought I'd let you know the 2022 models come in white with a white keyboard but you choose the color of the backlight, mine is set to red. Also, if you really want a dark colored one, they do come in dark gray overseas.

Same, well got one with the 6800s for my college teen. It's pretty power thrifty if you limit the fps and tune it. Otherwise yea it's a pretty great laptop.
