It's $9 more at Amazon. I'd recommend paying $9 more to not have to deal with Newegg.
For anyone wondering, HODL is an acronym for "Hold On for Dear Life," so I think the posters above mean do not purchase now because pricing are trending down.

The 990 2TB was $145 a few weeks back.

Why would the price on aging technology go up? Unless you think there's going to be another chip shortage? Lol
Manufacturers currently have an oversupply of SSDs and have stopped producing so many to lower supply, hence an eventual increase in price by fall.

Well, I guess we can say that systems differ and I'm not a gamer. Most of my work is video, and I just don't see a huge difference in day to day stuff. Copy speed is virtually identical regardless of Gen 3 or 4. Many studies have shown that people can't tell the difference between faster/slower Gen 4 devices, and surprisingly they can't tell the difference between Gen 3 and Gen 4, and I can also tell you people don't ever recognize a SATA m.2 vs PCIe drives. Humans are not built to perceive clearly fractions of a second beyond an "intuitive" sense.

BTW - The 990 is Gen 4, not 5. No one has a gen 5 SSDs on the market, especially samsung, who built the 990 to match up to the SN850x, et. al., and possibly to improve the controller. The real shocker about the 990 was that it too was Gen 4 when they had the 980 already. People didn't get it, but the 990 is just an improved 980 if you will...
I think where you are getting confused is that files can only transfer at the max speed of your slowest bottleneck

LOL. thanks, but I'm not confused at all. I've been at this long time.

Every computer has a gating factor. They always will for that matter..

I understand that systems differ, but again, people can't tell the difference between these things even on identical systems.

I've tested this many times, even including SATA M.2 vs PCIe drives. For everyday tasks - not copying files from one folder to another where PCIe always wins - people can't tell the, and I've seen little difference between Gen 3 and 4 drives (there are no Gen 5 drives, so we have yet to discover if there is a noticeable change).

Again there is absolutely a difference. You would know this if you actually transferred files. I've tested them. All my PCs and servers are running off m.2 because of it.

Btw 990 pro was built for gen 5, because of the forced supply chain disruption it was pushed back. They are still gen 3, 4 compatible.
