Chase freedom cardholders have 5% cash back on Amazon currently in rotation. Would bring the price to ~$280.

Just upgraded my to this from my 3600. Huge difference even at the ultrawide resolution that I play at. I have a rtx 3080.

It appears we think alike. I just bought the 5800xd on Amazon to upgrade from a 5600x that I'm selling for $100 to a friend. I also plan to buy a $6950x but I'm kinda hoping it'll drop to $500 by eoy.

Should I go with AM4 or AM5 platform? DDR4 or DDR5 memory?
I want something that will last 10 years. My current desktop is 10 years old. Rendering video is too slow.
Its all in how the money matters to you vs what you are getting in return. This is more bang for buck but if you want a slightly better experience for more money, then it's all about how much that money matters to you. For me, I went with AM5 because I only update my system every 8-10 years or so. Also, I get stuck in the I can get this years stuff next year for cheaper but then want next years stuff instead cycle and never upgrade until I really need it for some reason.

Is 10-20% better performance worth an extra 30-50% to you? Is a computer upgrade a financial burden to you? Big one, do you ever upgrade processor only? (rhetorical questions)

People are paying a little over $300 for a used 5800x3d on eBay.
Idk why, they've been in the $320's for months now. No way I'd buy a used cpu on ebay to save <$20.

Serious question, Why would someone purchase this over a Intel Core i5-13600K which is the same price but appears to have better specs?

I am considering selling my 5600x for ~$100 and upgrading this to future-proof since I wouldn't have to swap out any other components. It's paired with an AMD 6950 XT right now and only game on it... hmmmrmrmrmhrm decisions decisions.

this is exactly what I just did with the same setup about 2 months ago and have zero regrets. I also only game and have no need to even consider upgrading to AM5 at the moment. All curent games run buttery smooth

5800x3d pairs nicely with something like a 3070 ti. Your 7900xtx is not gonna be utilized fully when youre using this processor. It's more than 50%.

It's your money, but it seems like a waste to not fully utilize your gpu.
I'm not going to disagree that a 7900xtx is in a different tier than a 5800x3d, but your link is to Halo MCC which is a very old set of games that's easy to cpu bottleneck. 5800x3d is much closer to keeping up in more modern games, especially at 4K.

Im not going to disagree it will bottleneck at 1080p but I see nothing at 1440 or 4K. The 5800x3d still beats the 7700x in a good chunk of games. I can't even run resident evil 4 on a 3070 ti near max settings and forget about using ray tracing. 2023 shows us v-ram is actually important on the gpu. There is an interesting video w/ a guy that soldered on another 8gb onto his 3070 and suddenly it's able to play new games.

Now that pbo tuner is unlocked, everyone can hit max boost on the 5800x3d w/ decent air cooler and as long as your MB has been updated to do so. That was little earlier this year.

I upgraded from i710700 to the 3800x3d "had a new am4 board laying around, and it is way more consistent with frames. Frame drops are a thing of the past. rtx 3090 GPU.
Now waiting on the next big thing before i ever upgrade again.

It's a great cpu. My little brother is still running a ryzen 5 3600 and I'm trying to talk him into upgrading to this also because it's the most cost effective way to breathe new life into an existing am4 platform.

Fantastic Deal. AM5 has too many issues right now to justify its price tag.

Oh and Most rendering programs use your graphic card processor more than your CPU, so don't worry about getting more cores with the 5950X

I bought this off Amazon and when it arrived there was a camera screen protector in the box. Read the recent reviews and you will see this happened to a few other people. Just an FYI of something to be aware of. This is a nice processor that runs a bit hot, so get a good cooler and good thermal paste. I use an AIO 240mm corsair capellix elite with Arctic mx6 thermal paste. I run around 32C idle, 50-60C while gaming, and 72C during a cpuz stress test. It is definitely worth it as an upgrade if you game and have an older series amd processor. I had a Nvidia 2070 super and did not notice much improvement until I replaced it with an AMD 7900xt and doubled my FPS at 1080p and 4k. This processor has no trouble keeping up with the 7900xt @4k .

same exact setup here. it gets even better if your ram doesnt have the best timings as well, since the 3D vcache doesnt care about all that as much.
