It's not, but for 150 more you get a significant upgrade that will likely be supported by apple at least a year longer if not more.

I bought a lot of Macs when I had a small business as a pro photographer. Things slowed down and I got stuck with a $150 Apple Gift Card. I had it stored for maybe six years. Never needed anything from Apple directly. Ended up giving the card to my sis in law. So dude, there are many scenarios where gift cards don't make a good deal, and folks are not necessarily lying. I bought used Macs fairly recently, from Ebay, Amazon, even Dell -- not the Apple Store.

I would look at it this way: For $700, is the laptop configuration good for atleast the next 5-6 years? For me, unfortunately it already seems outdated. I don't care if just the battery life is great. What's not great is the ram, the disk space, etc.

OK, then think about it like this, 900$ m2 MacBook Air + free AirPods bundle.

Really, I get that for some people it won't work, and that's OK.

But I don't like how people are immediately dismissing it like it's a very bad option.

I literally got thumbs down when I said absolutely nothing wrong.

The people generally buy a 8gb MacBook Air doesn't need those specs.

Idk about everyone else but this is still the perfect laptop to recommend for parents, college students who just need a browser (no editing/coding), general web browsing.

You caaaan. But if you're serious about it, would be worth investing more for 16gb of ram.

Apple has a decent return policy so you can get one from Apple and see for yourself how it works for your workflow.

Surface Laptop 4 has a touchscreen, it is notably bigger due to aspect ratio. The fabric deck is known to wear somewhat poorly. The M1 blows the doors off the 4680u, notably in the single most important metric for daily web use: Single core performance. Despite that, I doubt it would make a huge dent in normal use other than that the the M1 runs quiet and much cooler. Both are good computers to be honest, but the M1 was a bit of legend when it showed up for a reason - it turned a compromised computer (the i5 MacBook Air) into a world beater out of nowhere. It is hard to overstate how wildly fast it seemed for a silent cool computer. The SL4 was just a slightly better take on what made that Macbook air compromised. That said, if you want to play games - the answer is the SL4. Mac PC gaming is pretty dead.
