This deal is back. BestBuy goes off and on with the $1099 price.

If you are OK with open box items they currently they have:
- Geek SQUAD Certified for $1025
- Excellent for $1002
- Satifactory for $947
- Fair for $924

Personally I would not go below excellent. BestBuy's Open Box quality control went downhill in the last a few years. I had to return "excellents" that had detached metal from the screen, dysfunctional keyboard etc.. All those were Lenovo though, your ASUS experience may be better.

Cheers!
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I waited for this deal to come back and got it 2 days ago. I heard all about the heat issues and how to overcome that. That wasn't a concern for me.

However, what I didn't know, and wasn't highlighted in many Youtube reviews I watched, was the coil whine. It's listed in quite a few online reviews after digging into it. You will notice the coil whine when the 6700S is under load. If you are gaming, not a big deal because the fans will kick in and drown it out and you are wearing headphones anyway. But if you using this for creative editing, you could well hear it and it's a deal breaker for a lot of people.

They list things like turning on the keyboard backlights or plugging a USB device to fix it, but none of those work for me. Mine has a manufacture date of 11/2022 so it might have worked for older ones.

I am keeping mine because it's an amazing machine and has insane battery life on the go. I can deal with coil whine.

Just something to be aware of.
Why would they? It's new at the listed price, and they also shared potential open box pricing.
Opinion: Nope

tell me more about this legion slim 7, i m also very seriously considering that (or waiting for the price to drop to ... 1264 ?)
I got it for $1264 because it was an Open Box item. It had better build quality because it was all metal, but in terms of performance, it was almost identical to the G14. I guess you could say it could run a bit better cause it stayed cooler, but it wasn't worth $400 more. The G14 I paid $864 for it Open Box and it's fantastic.

I will wait for the price drop on either / both then
Thanks

I haven't heard coil whine on mine yet, though it is possible that the fans are drowning it out

This was the laptop that caused me to ditch windows after three decades(Since Win 3.1) and move to a Mac. Not sure if it was this super hot laptop's hardware or was it windows 11 insisting on rebooting the laptop while on sleep, but I had enough.
Huge learning curve mastering numerous details but can't be happier. Now converted everyone in the household to a Mac.
Did the very same thing. While i didn't have issues with Windows 11, I wanted to get a decent powerful reliable laptop and was on the fence between Zepherus and Macbook Pro. Though
I've been very impressed by M1 chips as a longtime windows user since 98 I was still hesitant to pull the trigger on Mac. Besides Zepherys looked so good on paper. Respectable specs, upgradable NVME, RAM, WLAN, what's not to like?

Zepherys is a toaster oven with LCD screen. Even when running on iGPU with minimum wattage on CPU and GPU the thing would easily reach 70+C with basic web browsing. Hardly portable. 4 hour battery life on a good day means you have to lug around a gigantic power brick with you. And when you finally do need to use it in the field, you pull it out of the backpack it's hot as hell because it didn't go to sleep when the lid closed and drained itself. I really wanted to like it, hoping I could make it work for me. Ended up returning it for MBP M1 Pro right before return window ended.

It's been 4 months, I can't tell if the macbook even has a fan, and I don't remember last time I had to charge it. I don't think I'll ever get a Windows laptop again moving forward, especially gaming one.

If you want a quality laptop, this ain't it. If you want a decent gaming computer, this ain't it either. If you want a gaming computer, get a desktop. Zepherys will always be connected to charger pretending it's a desktop anyways.

Based on your experience, I don't blame you for returning it, but I can say this does not match mine with this laptop, nor that of many people on the ZephyrusG14 subreddit [reddit.com]. It may be that the laptop has quality control issues, and I won the QC lottery while you did not. But the CPU temp on mine is typically sub 50 C on balanced mode with both iGPU and dGPU active, multi-monitors, and web browsing/light tasks. While gaming, if I'm pushing it to the max I can get the CPU in the high 80s, which is within the safe operating range, or I can drop settings a little to get cooler temps and due to the small size and sharpness of the screen (and my old eyes), quality really does not suffer in an appreciable way. Using G-Helper [github.com] and ditching Armoury Crate, I'm able to set a low PPT limit and with that and battery saver mode, the system is more than fast enough for typical media consumption/web browsing and actual battery life is 7-8 hours. I will grant that Windows sleep mode can be buggy, but in my experience this is the case with multiple laptops in this price range, so I blame Windows more than the laptop (Portable PC handhelds such as the Ayaneo Air and Ayaneo 2 are another hobby of mine and they also have this issue), so I've basically gotten into a habit of putting it in hibernate if it's going in a laptop bag.

Macbooks are great machines, I use an M1 Studio for work and adore it, but they solve a different problem IMO. If gaming is at all something you want to do, the comparison is apples and oranges.

Your experience with the g14 mirror mine exactly. I run 4 external monitors with mine and doing normal work on it I get about 55c Temps. Running stress test about 82c. Battery life on silent mode 8+ hours.

I was able to fix the minor coil whine I was hearing with this model by capping the frame rate with MSI afterburner. I just dropped it a frame below the max and it eliminated it completely. I haven't tested it in every scenario but it seemed to work while gaming and in Blender and After FX.

This can but it will require some modifications from software to make it comfortable on your hands, if you are going to use it attached to a desktop with keyboard , mouse, you can look for bigger and heavier laptops with better cooling. This is great laptop for portable use, but again - it will require custom power profiles - many videos on youtube.
